“All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make, the better.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
I am a passionate theatre artist and educator with over twenty years of professional experience. I currently serve as Associate Professor of Acting/Movement in the graduate and undergraduate theatre programs at The University of Alabama (UA). I am an actor, director, movement specialist, intimacy director, and nationally certified teacher of the Alexander Technique through the American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT) and certified Art of Breathing instructor. I have worked as an actor off-Broadway at the historic La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, Theatre for the New City, The Culture Project, Genesis Repertory Co., Mabou Mines, and regionally. Previous regional directing and devising credits include productions at Virginia Rep, Richmond Symphony, and Limelight Productions in the British Virgin Islands, and movement direction credits include Mother Courage and Her Children (with Kathleen Turner at Arena Stage in DC), along with other regional productions. At The University of Alabama, I have movement/intimacy directed and coached numerous productions as well as directed a number of mainstage productions. I also create, write, and perform original works of physical theatre, including Her Destined Port, performed at New York City’s La Mama Experimental Theatre Club, and Beauty, Identity, Release at the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival.
I was awarded the 2022 Theatre Fellowship with the Alabama State Council on the Arts, which allowed me to complete much of my Intimacy Direction training through Intimacy Directors and Coordinators (IDC) and travel to Paris to study at École Internationale de Mime Corporel Dramatique. I hold an MFA in Theatre/Movement Pedagogy from Virginia Commonwealth University, a BA in Theatre from Virginia Tech, with additional training from Circle in the Square in NYC and Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin, Ireland.
My work and teaching are rooted in finding truthful vulnerability and embodied storytelling, with an emphasis on revealing our vast inner landscapes through the vessel of body, breath, and imagination.
